Explanation: If you make an LJ post with the date set a long way into the future, and use the "backdate entry" feature, it never appears on anyone's friends page, but it sits at the top of you journal until that date comes.

Tip for Semagic users: If you hit "Edit last entry" it shows you your floating entry, but not if you select "Load last todays entry" (under Options, Advanced).

Many of my posts are friends-only. If this journal seems light and trivial, well, it is, but there's more blood, sweat and tears to read if you have an LJ account and I befriend you.

	-35 years? ;~) No, a month or two. I read that you could use the "Backdate Entry" feature to forward-date a post that would "float" on top of your recent entries view but not appear on anyone's friends view, so I tried it out. 2037 was as far ahead as it would let me go. (Reply to this) (Parent)

If you don't give an entry a background, whatever's behind will show through. I looked at your journal, and you have each entry in a table inside another table. If you remove the bgcolor attributes (where it says bgcolor="#cc5050" bgcolor="#222222") then the entry text appears on top of the background photo. Is that what you want? It makes it difficult to read if you do that, so you might want to change the colour of the text.

	If you mean this background effect, you just need to put the text inside DIVs with the right CSS - view the source to see what I mean. If you mean the background on my journal page, that's CSS too. How to apply it depends on which LJ style system you're using. In S1 it's easy. If you're using S2 then I can't tell you much, but start by reading the relevant FAQ. (Reply to this) (Parent)
